Islamabad: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif reiterated Pakistan’s unwavering support for the people of Jammu and Kashmir on the occasion of Kashmir Black Day, marking the day Indian forces landed in Srinagar 79 years ago. This event, noted by Sharif, opened a continuing chapter of tension and conflict in the region, where the quest for self-determination remains unfulfilled according to United Nations Security Council resolutions.
According to Press Information Department, the Prime Minister highlighted the ongoing hardships faced by the people in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) and their continued resilience in pursuit of fundamental rights. He expressed concern over the suppression of political expression and the detention of Kashmiri leaders and activists. Sharif stressed the need for international attention and adherence to due process and basic liberties in addressing the situation.
The statement underscored the repercussions of unilateral measures taken by India since August 5, 2019, which have altered the political and demographic landscape of the territory and drawn international scrutiny. Pakistan, Sharif affirmed, remains steadfast in its call for a resolution in line with international law and United Nations mandates.
On this day of remembrance, the Prime Minister paid tribute to the sacrifices made by generations of Kashmiris and reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to supporting their cause at all levels. He reiterated that peace in South Asia hinges on a just resolution of the Kashmir issue, honoring the aspirations of the Kashmiri people.
