ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif held a meeting with Ambassador Olara Otunnu, a candidate for the United Nations Secretary-General position, to discuss Pakistan’s ongoing commitment to the United Nations Charter. The meeting, which took place on September 4, 2026, was also attended by Ruhakana Rugunda, Uganda’s special envoy and former prime minister, along with other key Pakistani officials.

According to Press Information Department, the Prime Minister reiterated Pakistan’s dedication to the principles outlined in the United Nations Charter, emphasizing the importance of adhering to international law and treaties. He assured that Pakistan would continue supporting multilateralism and the United Nations’ role in global affairs. The Prime Minister expressed aspirations that the incoming Secretary-General would maintain a balanced approach to the UN’s core pillars: peace and security, development, and human rights.

Ambassador Otunnu thanked Pakistan for its significant contributions to multilateralism and its leadership in promoting international peace and security, acknowledging the country’s efforts across all three pillars of the United Nations.
