Islamabad: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Monday emphasized the effectiveness of the digital wallet system used in the Ramadan Relief Package, advocating for its adoption in other government schemes. During a review meeting, the prime minister highlighted the seamless and transparent transfer of funds to beneficiaries through this system.
The Ramadan Relief Package, implemented nationwide, including in Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir, received praise from the prime minister, who commended the State Bank of Pakistan, NADRA, and technology institutions for their role in maintaining transparency.
The meeting was attended by key ministers, including those responsible for national food security, economic affairs, information, and IT, as well as representatives from private companies associated with the relief package. The Prime Minister’s Office Media Wing released a statement detailing the proceedings.
A third-party audit of the relief package was ordered by the prime minister to ensure accountability. Additionally, he called for enhancing the awareness campaign conducted by telecom companies and banks to maximize its reach and effectiveness. A comprehensive report on these efforts was requested.
Progress on the Ramadan Relief Package 2025 was outlined during the briefing, revealing that 63% of beneficiaries had received payments. Detailed records of the distribution process were maintained, and the meeting was informed about the deployment of 2,224 employees dedicated to the initiative. Over 1.5 million beneficiaries had been contacted via telephone.
The meeting underscored the government’s commitment to leveraging technology for efficient service delivery, setting a precedent for future initiatives.
