Islamabad: President Asif Ali Zardari has urged the international community to take decisive action against India’s human rights violations in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK). His plea emphasizes the necessity of addressing the ongoing crisis and implementing United Nations Security Council resolutions to resolve the Kashmir dispute.
According to Kashmir Media Service, in a statement released on the observance of “Kashmir Black Day,” President Zardari expressed Pakistan’s solidarity with the Kashmiri people, pledging continued support until they secure their right to self-determination. He recounted the historical aggression on October 27, 1947, when Indian forces occupied Jammu and Kashmir, initiating decades of conflict and suppression.
President Zardari highlighted the severe militarization of the region, the suppression of media freedom, and the incarceration of Kashmiri leaders. He criticized the international community’s inaction, particularly since August 5, 2019, when India revoked the special status of IIOJK and began altering its demographic structure, intensifying the occupation.
Despite these challenges, the president remarked on the resilience of the Kashmiri people, who continue to resist Indian oppression. He condemned India’s strategies to consolidate control over the region and suppress the Kashmiri freedom movement.
President Zardari also drew parallels with recent developments in the Middle East, arguing that unresolved disputes pose lasting risks to global peace. He emphasized the need for the United Nations and global powers to fulfill their obligations toward Kashmiris, underscoring that the resolution of such long-standing conflicts is crucial for international stability.
