Islamabad, President Asif Ali Zardari has called for the enhancement of trade and economic relations between Pakistan and the United Kingdom, underlining the mutual benefits such strengthened ties would bring to both nations.
According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, during a meeting with British High Commissioner to Pakistan, Jane Marriott, President Zardari emphasized the longstanding cordial relations between the two countries, enriched by high-level interactions and strong people-to-people contacts over the years. The President pointed out that stabilizing the economy, with a particular emphasis on employment generation and poverty alleviation, remains a high priority for the government.
Furthermore, President Zardari highlighted the serious challenge of climate change facing Pakistan, drawing attention to the significant role of the mangrove forests in Sindh province. Spanning over 600,000 hectares, these mangroves are crucial for the coastal ecosystem and contribute significantly to environmental sustainability.
The President also conveyed warm sentiments towards His Majesty King Charles III and the Princess of Wales, Catherine Middleton, extending wishes for their good health. This gesture underscores the friendly and respectful rapport between Pakistan and the United Kingdom, signaling a desire for continued and deepened bilateral cooperation, especially in the context of trade, economic partnership, and environmental conservation.
