Islamabad: President Asif Ali Zardari marked the International Day of Remembrance and Tribute to Victims of Terrorism by honoring the sacrifices of civilians, security personnel, and law enforcement agents who have fallen victim to terrorist acts. In his statement, he emphasized the resilience and ongoing efforts of Pakistan in combating terrorism, as well as the crucial role of victims and survivors in advocating for peace and education on the effects of extremism.
According to Press Information Department, President Zardari detailed Pakistan’s extensive and painful experience with terrorism, which includes the loss of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto and numerous other leaders. He pointed out the significant economic repercussions and highlighted the covert support that anti-Pakistan elements have provided to terrorist activities within the country.
The President applauded the nation’s resilience and the global recognition of its counter-terrorism measures. He noted that while military operations have dismantled major terrorist networks, non-kinetic efforts like the National Action Plan and various socio-economic initiatives have been pivotal in strengthening community resilience.
On this solemn day, President Zardari reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to continue its vigorous fight against terrorism, stressing the need for global cooperation and enhanced intelligence sharing to address the underlying causes of extremism.
