Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has authorized the modernization of the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) in a bid to promote the country’s exports and enhance the accessibility of Pakistani products in international markets. The decision, aimed at aligning local industries with export standards, was made during a high-level meeting chaired by the Prime Minister in the capital city.
According to Radio Pakistan, the Prime Minister emphasized the importance of international market access for locally manufactured products as a key factor in increasing exports. A modernized TDAP, he noted, would facilitate this access. Part of the modernization plan includes developing a comprehensive ecosystem for agricultural exports, covering the entire value chain.
The Prime Minister also underscored the need for a transparent and merit-based process to induct well-trained human resources into TDAP, linking career progression within the institution to target achievements and performance. Furthermore, he recommended hiring a reputable private audit firm to conduct performance and financial audits of the Authority.
Highlighting Pakistan’s vast export potential and strategic geographical location, the Prime Minister assured governmental support for industries and small and medium enterprises to enhance exports. The meeting also discussed a set of reforms to transform TDAP into a modern trade promotion organization that aligns with international benchmarks.
A phased twelve-month plan, encompassing approval, design, implementation, and independent evaluation, was presented to ensure the effective implementation of the proposed reforms. The Prime Minister directed that these reforms be completed and implemented by the middle of next year.
