BISHKEK: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to realizing the full potential of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) as he addressed the SCO Plus Summit in Bishkek. According to Radio Pakistan, Sharif emphasized Pakistan’s dedication to delivering tangible benefits to the people of the SCO member states as the country assumes the chairmanship of the organization.

During his address, Sharif highlighted the importance of focusing on key areas such as information technology, artificial intelligence, energy development, poverty reduction, disaster management, health, culture, and sports. He called for enhanced efforts to elevate the SCO to greater heights, underscoring the necessity of cooperation among member states.

Sharif also addressed the issue of terrorism, reiterating Pakistan’s commitment to combating terrorism, separatism, and religious extremism in collaboration with the SCO’s Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure. He condemned terrorism in all its forms and highlighted the threat posed by terrorist groups operating from Afghan territory.

The Prime Minister further stressed the importance of water as a vital resource for the region, urging that it should not be weaponized or used for political coercion. He emphasized the necessity of honoring treaties governing shared waters.

In conclusion, Sharif invited participants to attend the next SCO Plus meeting, scheduled to be held in Islamabad in 2027.
