Karachi: The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Sindh has intensified its efforts to mitigate the impact of the ongoing heatwave, with the establishment of additional heat stabilization camps and extensive public awareness campaigns across the region.
According to Provincial Disaster Management Authority, from May 21 to July 7, PDMA Sindh and District Disaster Management Authorities (DDMAs) have been actively monitoring the heatwave situation. They have coordinated closely with district Emergency Operation Centers and humanitarian partners to enhance the regional response capabilities.
As part of the Heatwave Response Plan, 294 heat stabilization camps have been set up in various districts by 40 humanitarian partners. These camps aim to provide immediate relief and safety measures to the affected populations. The partners have also been involved in conducting awareness sessions about the dangers of heatwaves, distributing informational and educational materials, and utilizing multiple media channels to reach the community effectively.
In addition to these efforts, Deputy Commissioners and Chairmen of DDMAs have been making regular visits to these camps, ensuring that all necessary support is provided efficiently. There has also been a significant focus on facilitating the safe transport of patients requiring urgent care to heat stroke centers and hospitals.
Furthermore, a Plantation Drive has been initiated by the Deputy Commissioners/Chairmen of DDMAs in some districts as part of a long-term strategy to combat the effects of extreme heat.
