Islamabad: In a significant development for Pakistan’s seed sector, “PATCO Seeds,” an initiative of the Pakistan Agricultural Research Council (PARC), has received approval as a Seed Business Enterprise from the National Seed Development and Regulatory Authority (NSDRA). This milestone aims to strengthen Pakistan’s seed industry and improve the availability of high-quality seeds for farmers nationwide.
According to Press Information Department, Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research, Rana Tanveer Hussain, has been pivotal in modernizing Pakistan’s agriculture sector, particularly in the seed industry. His efforts focus on innovation, regulatory reforms, and increased private sector engagement.
The Federal Minister emphasized that the approval of PATCO Seeds is a major step in transforming Pakistan’s agriculture into a modern and competitive sector. The government is committed to empowering national institutions like PARC to deliver innovation directly to farmers, ensuring sustainable food security.
Under Minister Hussain’s guidance, PARC has focused on strengthening institutional frameworks, promoting public-private partnerships, and facilitating investments in agri-business ventures to bridge the gap between agricultural research and its commercial application.
The approval of PATCO Seeds highlights PARC’s commitment to translating research into practical success. As a certified Seed Business Enterprise, PATCO Seeds is positioned to play a transformative role in the production and distribution of certified seeds, contributing to improved crop yields and national food security.
Chairman PARC, Dr. Syed Murtaza Hassan Andrabi, noted that PATCO Seeds will serve as a crucial link between agricultural research and its application at the farm level, benefiting farmers nationwide.
PATCO Seeds aims to ensure the availability of high-quality, climate-resilient seed varieties tailored to Pakistan’s agro-ecological zones, enhancing productivity, strengthening rural livelihoods, and creating employment opportunities.
In light of challenges such as climate change and food insecurity, the Federal Minister’s vision, along with PARC’s initiatives like PATCO Seeds, underscores the Government’s commitment to a resilient and sustainable agricultural sector.
