Karachi: Pakistan is positioning itself as a hub for global trade and logistics through the modernization of its ports and increased investment under the Prime Minister’s Task Force on Maritime Reforms. Key ports in Karachi, Port Qasim, and Gwadar are undergoing upgrades to enhance their capacity and efficiency.

According to Radio Pakistan, these reforms include deepening navigation channels to accommodate larger vessels and modernizing harbor craft and cargo-handling facilities. Additionally, the implementation of a Port Community System, web-based customs, faceless customs, real-time container tracking, and 24/7 customs operations are aimed at expediting cargo clearance and improving transparency.

The Shipping Policy 2026, along with transshipment, private shipping, shipbuilding, and ship-repair initiatives, are creating new investment opportunities in the maritime sector. These strategic developments are set to bolster Pakistan’s role in international trade, offering improved logistics and infrastructure.
