ISLAMABAD: Illegal immigration from Pakistan to Europe has decreased by 64%, a significant achievement attributed to the country’s concerted efforts, as acknowledged by two major European agencies. The International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD) and the European Union’s Border and Coast Guard Agency (Frontex) have lauded Pakistan’s measures to address this issue, as reported in a recent press release.

According to Radio Pakistan, the recognition came during separate meetings in Islamabad between Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, ICMPD Director General Susanne Raab, and Frontex Executive Director Hans Leijtens. The discussions focused on strengthening cooperation to further curb illegal immigration and improve border management. Both parties expressed a commitment to enhancing their collaboration to address these challenges.

Interior Minister Naqvi highlighted that achieving a significant reduction in illegal immigration was a challenging task given the limited resources. He emphasized that the next target is to eliminate illegal immigration completely. Naqvi outlined several strategies, including the installation of modern technology at immigration counters and training officers, to improve border management.

The ICMPD delegation praised Pakistan’s efforts and the FIA’s risk analysis report, pledging continued support to help Pakistan achieve its goal of eradicating illegal immigration.
