Islamabad, October 07, 2022 (PPI-OT):Pakistan has called upon the international community to hold India accountable for its brazen persecution of innocent Kashmiris and play its role in an amicable resolution of the Kashmir dispute.
The Foreign Office Spokesperson Asim Iftikhar speaking at the weekly press briefing said, deplored that in the past one-week, Indian forces’ personnel mercilessly martyred eight innocent Kashmiris in Baramulla, Shopian and Pulwama district in extrajudicial manner. He said since India’s unilateral and illegal actions of 5th August 2019, the occupation forces have martyred more than 678 Kashmiris, including at least 158 this year.
Asim Iftikhar expressed concern over the deteriorating health and continued illegal detention of Kashmiri detainees including Hurriyat leaders like Yasin Malik who are languishing in different jails of India and IIOJK. He said, senior APHC leader, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq remains under continued house arrest and is not allowed to go to the Jamia Masjid to deliver the Friday sermon.
The Spokesperson said that the Indian Charged’ Affaires in Islamabad was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs last week and conveyed Pakistan’s serious concerns over the deteriorating health condition of Hurriyat leader Altaf Ahmed Shah languishing in New Delhi’s infamous Tihar Jail for the last five years.
The Spokesperson said IIOJK continues to face India’s economic terrorism. He pointed out that while the territory has a stark unemployment rate, its farmers are faced with prolonged and forced road blockades by the occupation forces, exposing them to risks of the decay of the produce. He said, this is a deliberate attempt to destroy the economy of IIOJK.
Asim Iftikhar reiterated Pakistan’s call for the investigation of extra-judicial killings in IIOJK by a Commission of Inquiry as recommended by the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) in its Kashmir Reports of 2018 and 2019.
