New York: Pakistan has called for maintaining a balance in the defense capabilities of states, advocating for armaments and military forces to be kept at their lowest possible levels. This statement was made during a session of a United Nations panel, where the emphasis was placed on regional security and the role of influential states in fostering it.
According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Pakistani delegate Atif Raza highlighted the importance of conventional arms control, risk reduction, and confidence-building measures as essential foundations for peace in various regions worldwide. He pointed out the responsibility of militarily significant states in promoting these approaches to enhance regional security.
Raza warned that when states disrupt these regional strategies due to global ambitions perceived as incompatible with them, they hinder the progress toward peace. He stressed that without addressing the root causes of disputes and mistrust, the effectiveness of confidence-building measures is reduced. He concluded by asserting that regional security is inherently linked to global security, and undermining one aspect jeopardizes the other.
