New York: Pakistan has called for intensified international measures to shield children from the impacts of armed conflicts. The appeal was made by Usman Jadoon, the Acting Permanent Representative of Pakistan to the United Nations, during a Security Council briefing commemorating the 30th anniversary of the mandate on Children and Armed Conflict.
According to Radio Pakistan, Jadoon expressed Pakistan’s deep concern over the rising number of violations against children globally. He highlighted the situation in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, where over 12,000 severe violations against children, including instances of killing and maiming, were recorded in a single year.
Jadoon emphasized the ongoing physical and psychological trauma endured by Palestinian children, pointing out the life-changing injuries and amputations that many have suffered. He urged that the protection of children must remain a critical international concern, especially in regions experiencing armed conflict and foreign occupation.
