Green Skills Initiative Aims to Combat Climate Change Impacts in Pakistan

Islamabad: Minister for Climate Change Musadik Malik emphasized the importance of modern technology and research-driven innovations to mitigate the impacts of climate change in Pakistan. According to Radio Pakistan, Malik was speaking at a ceremony for the Green Skills Development Initiative in Islamabad, where he highlighted the severe consequences of climate change the country has faced, including the loss of approximately six thousand lives and the displacement of 40 million people over the past decade.

The minister advocated for a shift from conventional training methods to an approach that integrates scientific research with practical skills, entrepreneurship, and investment. He proposed clearly defined green skills and recognized certifications, along with international university partnerships and structured research opportunities for Pakistani graduates. Malik also called for direct investment in young researchers, innovators, and entrepreneurs to foster an integrated ecosystem. This ecosystem would involve collaboration between universities, research institutions, industry, and investors to transform scientific knowledge into practical technologies and sustainable green businesses.

The Green Skills Development Initiative, as outlined by the minister, seeks to promote environmentally friendly skills, create job opportunities, and address the adverse impacts of climate change. Malik stressed the need for innovations across various fields, including construction, business, energy, trade, and investment, as essential to addressing the challenges posed by climate change.
