New York: Pakistan has advocated for a comprehensive, democratic, and equitable reform of the United Nations Security Council. The call was made by Gul Qaiser Sarwani, Counsellor at the Pakistan Mission to the UN, during a General Assembly debate focused on the use of veto power.
According to Radio Pakistan, Sarwani emphasized that the misuse of veto power undermines the Security Council’s effectiveness, diminishes the credibility of the United Nations, and perpetuates inequalities within the international system. The remarks highlight ongoing discussions regarding the structure and function of the Security Council, as member states consider changes to enhance its legitimacy and performance.
