ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan-Maldives Parliamentary Friendship Group (PFG) engaged in a meeting with a visiting parliamentary delegation from the Republic of Maldives, aiming to fortify bilateral relations, parliamentary cooperation, economic engagement, and people-to-people connections between the two nations.

According to National Assembly of Pakistan, the meeting was led by Ms. Shaista Khan, MNA, and attended by multiple members of the National Assembly. The discussions underscored the significance of sustained parliamentary interactions to enhance mutual understanding and legislative knowledge exchange. The convener underlined the role of the Parliamentary Friendship Group as a platform for regular institutional engagement and expressed interest in increasing interactions through reciprocal visits and virtual engagements.

The Maldivian delegation expressed gratitude for the hospitality received and acknowledged the enduring friendly ties between the two countries. They highlighted the potential for expanded cooperation in areas such as medical services, tourism, and construction, emphasizing the importance of direct air connectivity to facilitate these interactions. The forthcoming visit of the President of Maldives to Pakistan was noted as a critical opportunity for further strengthening these ties.

Both sides shared views on expanding cooperation in trade, investment, healthcare, and technology, recognizing the potential contributions of Pakistan’s expertise to Maldivian priorities. The participants reaffirmed the importance of parliamentary diplomacy, high-level exchanges, and connectivity to reinforce Pakistan-Maldives relations, committing to regular engagement through established channels to explore new avenues of collaboration.
