Pakistan Leadership Reaffirms Support for Kashmir on Solidarity Day

Islamabad, On the occasion of Kashmir Solidarity Day, Pakistan’s top leadership, including President Dr. Arif Alvi, Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar, and the chiefs of the armed services, have reiterated the nation’s unwavering support for the people of Jammu and Kashmir in their quest for a just resolution of the dispute in line with United Nations Security Council resolutions and the Kashmiri people’s aspirations.

According to Kashmir Media Service, President Alvi, in his message, highlighted the prolonged struggle of the people of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) to achieve their right to self-determination, a struggle that has spanned seventy-six years. He pointed out the annual adoption of a resolution by the UN General Assembly supporting the right to self-determination for people under foreign occupation, lamenting the fact that Kashmiris have yet to exercise this right. President Alvi criticized the post-August 5, 2019, actions of India in IIOJK aimed at altering the demographic and political landscape to disenfranchise the Kashmiri people.

Caretaker Prime Minister Kakar paid tribute to the enduring sacrifices of Kashmiri men and women over the past seven decades. He emphasized that the resolution of the Jammu and Kashmir issue must be in accordance with the will of its people, as articulated through a free and impartial plebiscite under the auspices of the United Nations, a principle enshrined in relevant UN Security Council Resolutions.

The leadership of Pakistan’s armed forces also expressed their admiration for the Kashmiri people’s resilience and ongoing struggle against human rights abuses and the harsh conditions imposed by Indian forces in IIOJK.

Caretaker Minister for Information, Broadcasting, and Parliamentary Affairs Murtaza Solangi underscored that Jammu and Kashmir remains one of the most protracted issues on the UN Security Council’s agenda. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to a resolution of the Kashmir conflict that respects the wishes of the Kashmiri people and aligns with applicable UN resolutions.

This collective statement from Pakistan’s leadership on Kashmir Solidarity Day serves as a reaffirmation of the country’s commitment to supporting the Kashmiri cause at both the moral and diplomatic levels, stressing the importance of international engagement and support to resolve one of the longest-standing disputes in the UN’s history.
