Islamabad: Pakistani and European Union officials are gearing up for the Pakistan-EU Business Forum, set to take place on April 28-29 in Islamabad, as both parties seek to enhance trade and investment ties. A key focus will be the Generalized Scheme of Preferences Plus (GSP+) program, a significant component of their economic relationship.
According to Press Information Department, Federal Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal Khan met with Raimundas Karoblis to discuss the forum’s strategic importance. The event is expected to convene government officials, business leaders, and institutional stakeholders from both regions, fostering direct partnerships and facilitating investment flows.
The forum will feature numerous business-to-business engagements, with hundreds of planned meetings between Pakistani and European companies aimed at identifying new collaboration opportunities. Officials emphasize that the event provides a platform for Pakistan to project a business-friendly image globally.
Discussions also addressed the potential for regularizing such engagements to sustain dialogue between Pakistani and European businesses. The GSP+ scheme emerged as a crucial topic, with European representatives acknowledging its role in bolstering Pakistan’s export opportunities, particularly in textiles. Pakistan reaffirmed its commitment to fulfilling GSP+ obligations and optimizing its benefits for export growth.
Additionally, the meeting covered Pakistan’s tariff rationalization efforts and the importance of predictable, transparent policies to attract long-term investments. Both sides explored the potential for trilateral investment opportunities involving the Gulf region.
