Islamabad: Federal Minister for Interior Mohsin Naqvi met with a delegation of the Chinese business community led by Chinese Consul General Zhao Shiren to discuss security measures for Chinese nationals working in Pakistan. The meeting focused on implementing recommendations to ensure the safety of Chinese citizens involved in various projects across the country.
According to Press Information Department, the meeting, which lasted three hours, included senior officials from law enforcement agencies of both the Federal and Punjab governments. Interior Minister Naqvi emphasized the government’s commitment to the safety of Chinese nationals, stating that protecting them is a top priority and that SOPs have been specifically formulated to safeguard their interests.
The Interior Minister assured the Chinese delegation that all feasible recommendations would be implemented and highlighted new facilitations such as the provision for Chinese citizens to obtain visas online starting August 14, simplifying the process for business-related visits. Naqvi also mentioned that the SOPs would be continually reviewed to enhance the convenience and security of Chinese nationals.
Chinese Consul General Zhao Shiren expressed confidence in the strengthened security measures and reiterated the strong bilateral relations between Pakistan and China. He appreciated Minister Naqvi’s efforts and expressed optimism about the positive outcomes of the meeting.
The gathering was attended by a significant number of Chinese businessmen, especially those operating in Punjab, indicating the importance of these discussions. High-level officials present included Federal Secretary Interior Khurram Ali Agha, Inspector General of Police Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar, National Coordinator NACTA Rai Tahir, CCPO Lahore Bilal Siddique Kamyana, Home Secretary Punjab Noorul Amin Mengal, among others, underscoring the meeting’s high stakes in fostering a secure environment for international investors.
