New York: Pakistan has called on the international community to ensure the complete implementation of the Gaza ceasefire and associated peace efforts.

According to Radio Pakistan, Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, emphasized the urgency of these actions during his participation in a United Nations Security Council Open Debate addressing the Middle East situation, including the Palestinian issue. Ahmad highlighted the dire aftermath of the ceasefire, noting the death of over 1,100 Palestinians. He outlined the severe humanitarian conditions faced by around two million people, who are restricted to only 30 percent of Gaza’s land. Reports of a significant earthen barrier being erected across Gaza were also mentioned, which Ahmad argued fortifies Israeli control over approximately 70 percent of the area.

Ahmad urged the Security Council to demand an immediate cessation of all settlement activities and to oppose any efforts towards annexation, forced displacement, or changes to the demographic and geographic nature of the Occupied Palestinian Territory. He emphasized that the establishment of an independent, sovereign, and viable State of Palestine, based on pre-1967 borders with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital, represents the only viable route to a just and lasting peace.

In a broader regional context, Ahmad reiterated Pakistan’s unwavering support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of fraternal countries in the area. He called for restraint from all parties involved, urging immediate actions towards de-escalation and adherence to commitments under the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding. Pakistan, according to Ahmad, remains committed to supporting efforts towards lasting peace and stability in the region through dialogue and diplomacy.
