Bishkek: Pakistani Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and Kyrgyz President Sadyr Zhaparov have announced a series of new cooperation agreements aimed at enhancing bilateral relations between their countries. During an official visit by Sharif to Kyrgyzstan, the leaders discussed a range of topics, including trade, investment, energy, and regional security, highlighting their commitment to deepening ties and promoting economic connectivity between South Asia and Central Asia.
According to Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the visit, which followed previous high-level meetings, resulted in the signing of agreements that focus on various sectors such as energy cooperation, trade and investment, transport and logistics, and cultural exchanges. The leaders emphasized the importance of implementing these agreements to elevate the Kyrgyz-Pakistan partnership to a new level. A notable outcome of the visit was the signing of the Program of Cooperation between the two countries’ foreign ministries for 2026-2027, underscoring a mutual interest in strengthening political dialogue and cooperation.
The leaders also instructed their governments to work on increasing bilateral trade, targeting a turnover of USD 200 million. They expressed support for establishing joint ventures and promoting industrial cooperation, with particular emphasis on sectors like mining, agriculture, and digital technologies. The creation of the Tamchy Special Financial Investment Territory was welcomed as a platform for attracting international investment and fostering financial cooperation with Pakistan.
In the realm of regional security, the leaders agreed on the necessity of combating terrorism and organized crime, with several agreements signed to bolster legal and law enforcement collaboration. Additionally, they acknowledged the importance of stability in Afghanistan for regional connectivity and reiterated that Afghan territory should not be used for activities threatening other nations’ security.
The discussions also touched on mutual interests in cultural, educational, and scientific cooperation, with multiple memoranda of understanding signed to facilitate exchanges and collaborations. The visit concluded with an invitation for President Zhaparov to visit Pakistan, which he accepted, further cementing the commitment to ongoing diplomatic and economic engagement between the two nations.
