Istanbul: Pakistan and the International Maritime Organization (IMO) have agreed to bolster collaboration in areas such as ship recycling, maritime governance, the blue economy, and environmental protection. This agreement was reached during a meeting in Istanbul between Pakistan’s Minister for Maritime Affairs, Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry, and IMO Secretary-General, Arsenio Dominguez.
According to Radio Pakistan, the minister outlined Pakistan’s initiatives for conserving coastal ecosystems, including large-scale mangrove plantations. Dominguez commended Pakistan for its maritime reforms and expressed support for its efforts in advancing ship recycling and strengthening maritime governance. He also showed interest in visiting Pakistan to further discussions and review ongoing initiatives.
Both parties affirmed their commitment to enhance cooperation aimed at promoting a safer, sustainable, and more competitive maritime sector, while also exploring opportunities within the blue economy.
