ISLAMABAD: The 8th Round of the Pakistan-France Joint Security Commission convened in Islamabad, with senior officials from both nations engaging in high-level discussions focused on security and defense cooperation. The Pakistani delegation was led by Lt. Gen. (Retd) Muhammad Ali, Federal Secretary of the Ministry of Defence, while Mr. Nicolas Roche, Secretary General for Defence and National Security, represented France.

According to Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the meeting provided a platform for reviewing the progress made since the 7th Round held in Paris in 2022. Both countries expressed their commitment to advancing the Pakistan-France Roadmap for Bilateral Cooperation established in 2023 and agreed to maintain ongoing bilateral dialogue and engagement.

The discussions included evaluations of regional security developments and underscored the role of diplomacy and dialogue in addressing new security challenges. There was a reaffirmation to bolster cooperation in counterterrorism efforts, as well as in combating drug trafficking, piracy, and other transnational organized crimes.

The Pakistan-France Joint Security Commission serves as a crucial mechanism for consultations on mutual security and defense interests. The meeting concluded with plans for the next round to take place in France, with dates to be mutually decided.
