Pakistan and China Discuss Enhanced Youth Cooperation at High-Level Meeting


Islamabad: A high-level meeting between Chairman Prime Minister’s Youth Programme Rana Mashhood Ahmed Khan and Shi Yuanqiang, Charge d’Affaires of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China, focused on strengthening cooperation in youth development, education, skills, and technology between Pakistan and China.



According to Press Information Department, the meeting was held at the Prime Minister’s Office and included discussions on potential initiatives such as a Chinese Universities Education Expo in Pakistan. This proposed event aims to provide Pakistani students with direct access to Chinese academic programs and scholarship opportunities.



Rana Mashhood Ahmed Khan highlighted the significance of enhancing youth exchanges and collaboration in various fields, including culture and research. He pointed out the establishment of PMYP Secretariats in China as a step towards institutional engagement in the youth sector. Emphasizing the strong bilateral relationship, Khan noted the anticipated milestone of Pakistan’s first astronaut joining China’s space station by the end of the year.



Shi Yuanqiang reiterated the importance of the Pakistan-China “iron brother” relationship and praised the Digital Youth Hub initiative of the Prime Minister’s Youth Programme. He expressed interest in greater Chinese engagement with the platform, which aims to connect young people with opportunities.



The meeting also explored collaboration on Pakistan’s National Youth Employment Policy, with proposals for structured mechanisms to identify opportunities through Chinese institutions and stakeholders. Joint Secretary PMYP Dr. Muhammad Ali Malik emphasized cooperation on expanding employment and skills development for Pakistani youth.



Both parties agreed on the designation of focal persons to maintain communication and develop a framework of cooperation, reinforcing the commitment to translate the longstanding friendship into meaningful youth opportunities.
