Islamabad: More than 2.2 million individuals have enrolled in Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s Special Fuel Relief Scheme, according to Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar. Addressing a news conference, Tarar stated that 92 percent of the registrants are users of motorcycles, Qingqis, and rickshaws.

According to Radio Pakistan, the scheme now includes all motorcycles, rickshaws, and Qingqis registered after January 1, 2006. Registration SMS charges have been waived, and the previous restriction of five liters per token has been lifted. Eligible users will receive four tokens monthly, while vehicles up to 800cc can avail a discount on ten liters of petrol every ten days.

The facility is available at all petrol stations, with ongoing instructions provided to them. The ownership condition for vehicles has been removed, and over 557,000 registrations were completed in a single day. To date, 1.9 million tokens have been distributed, including 152,000 for 800cc vehicles.

Tarar noted that the Prime Minister is receiving real-time updates on the scheme, and adjustments will be made based on public feedback. The initiative aims to provide targeted subsidies to those most in need, with approximately 25 million motorcycles registered across Pakistan set to benefit.

Complaints are being addressed, and an awareness campaign is being conducted to aid registration. The Information Minister also touched on the law-and-order situation, emphasizing that the Islamabad High Court has mandated clear orders to prevent road blockades and ensure public movement is not hindered. The government is committed to preventing any violent groups from entering Islamabad.
