NTDC Boosts Power Capacity at Sheikhupura Grid Station with New Autotransformer

Lahore: The National Transmission and Despatch Company Limited (NTDC) has significantly enhanced the power transmission capabilities of the 500 kV Grid Station in Sheikhupura by installing a new 250 MVA, 220/132 kV autotransformer. This strategic upgrade is set to improve electricity supply reliability to Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) areas, benefiting a wide range of consumers.

According to National Transmission and Despatch Company announcement issued on 12 August 2024, the project, managed by Project Delivery (North) Lahore, was completed three days ahead of schedule, despite an initial shutdown plan extending to August 14, 2024. The efficient execution involved the replacement of an existing 160 MVA autotransformer with the more powerful unit, enhancing the grid station’s overall loading capacity.

The augmentation of the Sheikhupura facility is expected to stabilize power distribution and meet the growing energy demands of domestic, commercial, and industrial sectors in the region. Deputy Managing Directors Engr. Rasheed A. Bhutto and Engr. Qaiser Khan lauded the team’s effort and efficiency in achieving this critical infrastructure milestone.
