Karachi, The Kingdom of the Netherlands has reinforced its commitment to addressing global development challenges by agreeing to a three-year core funding of EUR 100,000,000 to the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). This substantial support highlights the Netherlands’ prioritization of flexible funding to combat multidimensional poverty, strengthen governance systems, and address climate change challenges.

According to United Nations Development Programme, this funding agreement aligns with the United Nations Secretary General’s Funding Compact. The Compact advocates for enhanced provision of flexible funding to UN agencies, ensuring effectiveness through strong results, reporting, transparency, and accountability.

UNDP expressed its gratitude for the Netherlands’ trust and unwavering support, emphasizing the importance of such flexible funding in advancing long-term sustainable development goals. Core resources provided by the Netherlands are pivotal for UNDP’s ability to address and prevent environmental threats, such as the risks posed by the FSO Safer supertanker in the Red Sea, and to implement key programmes like the Climate Promise and Nature Pledge. Additionally, these funds enable UNDP to respond to crises, including the war in Ukraine and conflicts in South Sudan, Armenia, Niger, and other regions.

The funding also strengthens UNDP’s oversight and accountability functions, ensuring that the organization can continue to deliver programmes effectively and efficiently, adhering to the highest standards of transparency. This partnership between the Netherlands and UNDP is set to focus on shared development priorities, including tackling multidimensional poverty, food insecurity, climate change, conflict, and fragility.
