Islamabad: The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) organized a seminar titled “Urban Flood Resilience Measures – Vision 2027: Beyond the Rains and Floods” at its National Emergencies Operation Center in Islamabad. The event gathered officials from government departments, development authorities, and experts in urban planning and water management to discuss comprehensive strategies to tackle urban flooding.

According to Press Information Department, the seminar assessed urban flooding incidents from 2025-26, identifying vulnerable areas and reviewing existing drainage systems. Participants discussed a holistic approach that includes improving drainage capacity, infrastructure maintenance, stormwater management, and better institutional coordination. The focus was on implementing priority interventions by June 2027 to enhance urban flood resilience.

The seminar provided a collaborative platform for various development authorities like CDA, WASA, RDA, and LDA to identify responsibilities and coordinate actions to mitigate flood risks. Lt Gen Inam Haider Malik, Chairman of NDMA, highlighted the need for a proactive approach to urban flood management, emphasizing preparedness and infrastructure resilience.

The seminar concluded with a call for coordinated follow-up actions under the Vision 2027 framework to fortify Pakistan’s urban centers against ongoing flooding challenges.
