Islamabad: The National Assembly, in its session on Thursday, approved a motion to suspend Member of the National Assembly Muhammad Iqbal Khan for his repeated inappropriate conduct, as outlined under Rule 21 of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in the National Assembly, 2007. The decision was made following reports of abusive language and misconduct towards officials and employees of the National Assembly Secretariat.
According to National Assembly of Pakistan, Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq asserted that Muhammad Iqbal Khan’s behavior had continuously undermined the dignity and sanctity of the House. The Speaker highlighted multiple complaints against Khan, including incidents involving the Director General Media of the National Assembly and security personnel. Such behavior, he noted, was incompatible with parliamentary norms and traditions.
The Speaker recounted instances where Khan had acted inappropriately, including an altercation with police officials at a security checkpoint near Serena Hotel. He emphasized that the misuse of authority and threatening conduct by any member was intolerable. Maintaining the integrity of Parliament and respecting its officers and staff were deemed essential by the Speaker.
The suspension motion, moved by MNA Farah Naz Akbar, was passed by the House, resulting in Khan’s immediate suspension for disrupting proceedings. Following the motion’s approval, the Speaker instructed the Sergeant-at-Arms to remove Khan from the House. Additionally, Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry informed the House that Khan’s son had reportedly sought political asylum in Italy using a blue passport. This matter has been referred to the Standing Committee on Interior for further investigation. Muhammad Iqbal Khan is barred from entering Parliament House for the duration of the ongoing Budget Session.
