Islamabad, The National Assembly passed a motion today authorizing the Speaker to nominate members to its standing committees based on recommendations from the heads of parliamentary parties. The motion, moved by PPP leader Naveed Qamar, is aimed at facilitating the election process of all standing committees within the house.
According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the Assembly also approved a motion allowing the Speaker to establish parliamentary friendship groups to enhance diplomatic relations with foreign legislatures. Defence Minister Khawaja Asif took the opportunity to address the assembly, requesting the Speaker to restrict the presence of guests in the galleries to uphold the security and dignity of the house.
The Speaker assured that measures have been taken in consultation with the Interior Minister and the Islamabad police chief to bolster the security of the parliament building. The session concluded with the prorogation of the house.
