Islamabad: Speaker of the National Assembly, Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, paid tribute to Kashmiri leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani on the fifth anniversary of his passing, acknowledging his enduring political struggle and steadfast advocacy for the rights and aspirations of the people in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).
According to National Assembly of Pakistan, Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq recognized Geelani as a prominent voice on the Kashmir issue, noting his unwavering stance on the right to self-determination for the Kashmiri people despite facing prolonged detention and house arrest. Sadiq emphasized that Geelani’s contributions to the Kashmir cause would be remembered and highlighted the ongoing aspirations of the Kashmiri people for their fundamental rights and a peaceful resolution to the Jammu and Kashmir conflict.
Sadiq reaffirmed Pakistan’s strong support for the legitimate right to self-determination of the IIOJK people and urged the international community to meet its responsibilities in addressing the longstanding dispute. He stressed the need for a just and lasting settlement aligned with the aspirations of the Kashmiri people and relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions. Additionally, Sadiq offered prayers for Geelani, seeking divine elevation for the late leader.
