Islamabad: The National Assembly Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs convened its 9th meeting at the Parliament House under the leadership of Chairperson Hina Rabbani Khar. Key topics discussed included the status and operations of Pakistan’s global consulates.
According to a statement by National Assembly of Pakistan, the committee examined the consular presence abroad, focusing on staffing, property ownership, and the involvement of local employees and officers from other ministries. A performance review of consular activities over the last five years was also presented, juxtaposed with a regional analysis of consular services.
Chairperson Khar emphasized the need for alignment of consular operations with current global dynamics. The meeting also featured insights from the Ministries of Commerce, Information and Broadcasting, and the FIA, which discussed efforts to bolster Pakistan’s international relations.
The session concluded with directives for further actions, including a comprehensive review of foreign missions, strategies for maintenance expenditures, and extending legal support to overseas Pakistanis.
