Muzaffarabad Sees Protests Over Indian Supreme Court’s Article 370 Ruling

Muzaffarabad, Widespread protests erupted across Azad Jammu and Kashmir in response to the Indian Supreme Court’s decision to uphold the revocation of Article 370 by the Narendra Modi-led government in occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

According to Kashmir Media Service, a significant protest demonstration was organized by Pasban-e Hurriyat Jammu and Kashmir in Muzaffarabad on Wednesday. The demonstration saw the participation of hundreds of people, who expressed their dissent by waving black flags and carrying placards and banners with anti-India slogans. In a symbolic act of defiance, the protesters burned copies of the Indian Supreme Court judgment.

During the protest, speakers articulated the sentiment of the Jammu and Kashmir populace, outrightly rejecting all actions taken by the Modi regime since August 5, 2019, in the occupied territory. The gathering was not just a demonstration of public sentiment but also saw participation from notable figures.

AJK Assembly Speaker Chaudhry Latif Akbar was present, along with other current and former Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs), including Abdul Qayyum Niazi, Khawaja Farooq Ahmed, Chaudhry Muhammad Yaseen, Faisal Mumtaz Rathore, Sardar Javed Ayub, Syed Bazil Ali Naqvi, Ch. Riaz, Sardar Hassan Ibrahim, Amir Yaseen, Nabeela Ayub, Ch. Maqbool Gujjar, Syed Murtaza Gillani, Hafiz Hamid Raza, Shaukat Javed Mir, Mukhtar Abbasi, Mubasher Munir Awan, Khalid Mehmood Zaidi, Azmat Hayat Kashmiri, Amir Awan, and Pasban-Hurriyat Chairman Uzair Ahmed Ghazali, among others.

Reports indicate that similar protests and rallies were held in other parts of Azad Kashmir, reflecting a widespread dissatisfaction with the Indian Supreme Court’s ruling. The protests in Muzaffarabad and elsewhere highlight the ongoing tensions and discontent in the region over India’s policies in Jammu and Kashmir.
