Murtaza Solangi Calls on UN to Fulfill Promises to Kashmiris

Islamabad, Murtaza Solangi, Pakistan’s caretaker Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting, has called on the United Nations to fulfill its longstanding promises to the people of Jammu and Kashmir. This statement was made in light of Kashmiris’ Self-Determination Day, marking the anniversary of the 1949 resolution by the United Nations Commission for India and Pakistan (UNCIP).

According to Kashmir Media Service, Solangi emphasized that over seven decades have elapsed since the UNCIP resolution granted Kashmiris the right to decide their future. Yet, the commitment to this promise remains unfulfilled, a matter of considerable concern for the government and people of Pakistan.

Solangi’s message highlighted the ongoing struggle of the Kashmiri people for their right to self-determination, a principle affirmed by the United Nations. He underscored the urgency for the UN to uphold its pledges and support a peaceful resolution of the Kashmir dispute in accordance with its resolutions.

The minister also drew attention to India’s recent measures to consolidate its control over the region. He specifically referenced the Indian Supreme Court’s decision on December 11, 2023, which upheld the Modi government’s repeal of occupied Kashmir’s special status on August 05, 2019. This action, represents a continuing effort by India to alter the status quo in the region.

Solangi reiterated Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to supporting the Kashmir cause and called for international intervention to address the long-standing dispute in accordance with the wishes of the Kashmiri people.
