Islamabad: The onset of monsoon season in 2024 has resulted in fatalities and considerable damage in the Sindh region, as per the latest daily situation report issued by the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA). The report details casualties, injuries, and infrastructural losses within a 24-hour window from July 1 to July 2.
According to National Disaster Management Authority, Monsoon 2024 Daily Situation Report No. 02, the casualties include four deaths in Sindh due to weather-related incidents, with Jamshoro district reporting two fatalities from ceiling collapses and lightning strikes. Injuries in the province include four individuals, with incidents of roof and ceiling collapses in Gujranwala and Jamshoro.
The report also highlights significant damages to infrastructure and private properties across various regions, though the most substantial losses are concentrated in Sindh. Notably, Jamshoro witnessed 13 houses suffering partial damage and the loss of livestock, including goats and sheep. In total, the province accounted for all reported livestock losses.
Cumulative data from the report shows that while other regions such as Balochistan, KP, Punjab, Gilgit Baltistan, AJK, and ICT reported no casualties or infrastructural damages in this period, Sindh alone faced ongoing challenges as the monsoon season progresses.
The NDMA continues to monitor the situation closely and coordinates with provincial disaster management authorities to address and mitigate the impacts of the monsoon across the country.
