Islamabad: Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Attaullah Tarar, has congratulated Senator Syed Ali Zafar on his appointment as the chairman of the Senate Standing Committee on Information and Broadcasting. During a committee meeting, Minister Tarar pledged full support from his ministry and emphasized the importance of cooperation beyond political lines for national progress.
According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Minister Tarar expressed a commitment to democratic values and dialogue with political opponents, reflecting a philosophy of transcending political rivalries for the sake of Pakistan’s development. He highlighted the ministry’s efforts to support the entertainment and film industry, advocating for a balance between local and foreign films and encouraging local filmmakers to present innovative ideas.
Additionally, Tarar announced the revival of a health insurance scheme for journalists, with the first phase set to benefit five thousand journalists and media workers, aiming eventually to cover 30,000 across the country. The plan includes providing access to quality medical facilities at approximately one thousand hospitals nationwide.
Furthermore, the Minister disclosed ongoing consultations for the establishment of the Digital Rights Protection Authority to address crimes in the digital space, including issues like deep fake videos. This initiative involves a broad consultation process with journalist bodies, parliamentarians, and political parties, led by a cabinet committee chaired by advisor Rana Sanaullah.
