Islamabad: In a decisive move aimed at safeguarding the country’s road infrastructure, Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan has mandated the strict enforcement of the Axle Load Control Regime. The minister issued these orders during a meeting in Islamabad, emphasizing the need to protect roads from the detrimental effects of vehicle overloading.
According to Radio Pakistan, Minister Khan has instructed that amendments be made to the National Highway Authority’s legal framework within one week to facilitate the implementation of the regime. He also mandated that all freight vehicles must undergo weight checks at designated weigh stations, with the entire system to be automated to minimize delays and enhance transparency.
In a bid to deter overloading, the minister announced that fines would be levied on both vehicle owners and factories found to be in violation of the load limits. Additionally, Khan directed the establishment of weigh stations on GT Roads and the deployment of modern cameras and AI-based systems on motorways to efficiently detect and address violations.
