KARACHI: Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab inaugurated the rehabilitation project of Memon Goth Road in District Malir, marking a significant infrastructure development at a cost exceeding Rs. 233.3 million. The project, aimed at improving connectivity and reducing travel time, was celebrated in the presence of Deputy Mayor Karachi Salman Abdullah Murad, City Council members, and other elected representatives.
According to Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, the rehabilitation and construction work spans 8,529 meters on both sides of Memon Goth Road. The project involved widening the road by up to 2 meters and constructing shoulders with an average width of 1.2 meters. An asphaltic wearing course was laid over 35,437 square meters, while pavers were installed on various sections to enhance durability and functionality. Additionally, lane markings and cat eyes were implemented to facilitate smooth traffic flow.
Mayor Wahab highlighted that all necessary groundwork, including traffic and sewerage systems, was completed prior to the road’s construction. He mentioned ongoing work on adjacent roads along Makran Road, with development expected to conclude by the end of the year. The Mayor emphasized the role of improved infrastructure in reducing travel time from the city to Malir to just 15 to 20 minutes.
Further projects underway include a dual carriageway from the airport to Check Post, aimed at enhancing connectivity to the motorway. The Mayor also announced the construction of a museum at the Chaukhandi Cemetery, with support from the Provincial Minister for Culture and Tourism, to educate the youth about Karachi’s historical and cultural heritage.
Mayor Wahab reiterated the commitment to fulfilling the Pakistan Peoples Party manifesto, prioritizing development and problem-solving in District Malir. He called for unity and civility in addressing public concerns, advocating for service-driven politics over prejudice and confrontation. The Mayor assured that measures would continue to improve citizens’ quality of life, with a focus on unity, respect, and practical solutions for Karachi’s progress.
