Legendary Qawwal Aziz Mian’s Legacy Celebrated on Birth Anniversary

Karachi: The birth anniversary of Aziz Mian, the iconic qawwal known for his unique style of singing ghazals, is being commemorated today. Born on April 17, 1942, in Delhi, Aziz Mian left an indelible mark on the world of music with a career spanning four decades and a repertoire of 65 albums.

Aziz Mian was renowned not just for his musical talent but also for his academic prowess. An erudite artist, he excelled in Urdu Literature, Persian, and Arabic. His live performances captivated audiences, notably with the longest-ever qawwali rendition.

Among his most celebrated works are qawwalis such as ‘Allah Hi Jane Kaun Bashar Hai’, ‘Nabi Nabi Ya Nabi Nabi’, ‘Main Sharabi’, ‘Teri Soorat’, and ‘Admi Hai Benazir’. These pieces continue to resonate with fans across generations.

In recognition of his contributions to music and philosophy, the Government of Pakistan awarded him the Pride of Performance in 1989. Aziz Mian passed away on December 6, 2000, in Multan, leaving behind a lasting legacy in the world of qawwali music.
