Lahore Plans Extensive Tree Plantation to Beautify Major Roads

LAHORE: In a strategic move to improve the visual landscape of the city, the Horticulture Agency Lahore has announced a plan to plant thousands of flowering trees along the major roads of the provincial capital. This initiative aims to enhance both the aesthetic appeal and environmental health of Lahore’s urban environment.

According to Directorate General Public Relation – Govt of Punjab, the plan was discussed in a high-level meeting chaired by the Managing Director of the Horticulture Agency, Ahmad Usman Javed. During the meeting, Javed instructed the Directors of Horticulture to identify suitable sites for planting within their respective zones. The campaign will focus on planting species such as Amaltas, Gulmohar, Jacaranda, Gul-e-Nishtor, and Buddha trees on green belts and berms. This effort is expected to not only beautify the roads but also help reduce environmental pollution.

Javed emphasized the importance of a structured approach to the plantation, recommending that a single species of flowering trees be planted continuously across a stretch of at least 300 meters, with potential extensions up to one kilometer where space allows. This method is intended to create an organized and visually appealing landscape along the city’s thoroughfares. The meeting also saw participation from Additional Managing Director Tasleem Akhtar Rao and Directors of Horticulture from various zones, who pledged their commitment to the timely execution of the project.
