Srinagar, The Kashmir Valley, situated in Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir, is currently experiencing continued cold wave conditions, with temperatures remaining below the freezing point across the region.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the local meteorological department has indicated that the valley is expected to see dry weather conditions until February 14. This forecast comes during a period known locally as “Chilla Khurd,” a twenty-day phase of intense cold that began on February 1 and is part of the region’s traditional winter cycle. This phase will be succeeded by “Chilla Bacha,” a ten-day period lasting until February 29, marking the end of the winter’s severe segment.
The valley annually undergoes a 40-day period of the harshest winter conditions, referred to as “Chillai Kalan,” which spans from December 21 to January 31. This period is notoriously known for its freezing temperatures, often leading to significant impacts on daily life and the natural environment in the region.
