KARACHI: Pakistan’s maritime sector is experiencing notable advancements, attributed to reforms implemented by the Prime Minister’s Task Force on Maritime Affairs. These developments have led to significant improvements in the global rankings of the country’s major ports.
According to Radio Pakistan, Karachi Port has seen a substantial rise in its global standing, jumping from the 99th to the 69th position within a year. Similarly, Port Qasim has improved its ranking from 74th to 56th. Both ports currently possess the capacity to handle over one hundred million tonnes of cargo annually, positioning them as key players in regional transshipment.
The enhancements in port facilities and operational systems are contributing to Pakistan’s growing prominence as a regional transshipment hub. This progress underscores the impact of the reforms on the country’s maritime infrastructure and its ability to compete in the global market.
