Karachi: Karamullah Waqasi, Spokesperson for the Mayor of Karachi and Parliamentary Leader of the Pakistan Peoples Party in the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, announced that the city’s development activities are being broadened to include not only major projects but also streets, neighborhoods, and essential civic services. These efforts aim to address basic infrastructure and everyday needs of the city’s residents.

According to Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, Waqasi highlighted that new directives have been made to expedite rehabilitation and improvement works on the city’s internal streets. The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation has accelerated development projects in various areas, including Shabbirabad and Chini-sar Town, with ongoing restoration efforts on Family Park Road and adjacent streets in District West. Additionally, despite being outside the corporation’s jurisdiction, streets in the Abdullah Gabol area are also undergoing improvements to strengthen infrastructure.

The Parliamentary Leader also mentioned progress on introducing a digital parking system in Karachi. Designed to improve organization and transparency, this system will offer citizens structured parking facilities and enable the corporation to maintain a comprehensive digital record of parking revenue. The initiative aims to address complaints related to parking and enhance transparency in fee collection.

In response to encroachment complaints, Waqasi stated that the Anti-Encroachment Department has been instructed to conduct operations across the city. Recent efforts in District West and Keamari, including areas around Banaras Chowrangi and Manghopir Road, have cleared footpaths of encroachments. These operations seek to restore pedestrian pathways and maintain clear public spaces.

Waqasi also announced the completion of the Shadman Information Technology Centre in District Central. This facility will offer free training opportunities in modern technology, including computer and artificial intelligence courses, and aims to protect public land previously threatened by encroachments.

Emphasizing the need for comprehensive urban development, Waqasi stated that efforts across different districts continue, focusing on modernizing civic services, organizing parking, removing encroachments, and providing education and training facilities to young people.
