Lahore: Breast cancer remains a significant health challenge for women, but early diagnosis and treatment can substantially improve recovery prospects, emphasized Prof. Dr. Jodat Saleem, Principal of Ameer-ud-Din Medical College. During an awareness event, he urged women to prioritize their health by overcoming social hesitation and seeking prompt medical consultations for early symptoms.
According to Directorate General Public Relation – Govt of Punjab, the awareness walk, led by Prof. Dr. Jodat Saleem and organized by Gynae Unit-I at Lahore General Hospital (LGH), aimed to highlight the importance of prevention, early detection, and treatment of breast cancer. The event saw participation from faculty members, young doctors, and nursing staff, with Vice Principal Prof. Dr. Muhammad Shahid and other senior medical professionals leading the initiative.
Prof. Dr. Faryad Hussain, Medical Superintendent at LGH, noted that modern diagnostic and treatment facilities are available at the hospital, with around 7,000 patients examined last year in the outpatient breast clinic. He emphasized the need for accurate information dissemination, encouraging women to consult specialists for suspicious symptoms rather than ignoring them.
Prof. Dr. Amna Ahsan Cheema and Prof. Dr. Tauseef Fatima underscored the significance of immediate medical evaluation for any breast changes. While self-examination is crucial, expert clinical opinion remains essential for a definitive diagnosis. They recommended that decisions regarding mammography should be made by a doctor, based on age, medical condition, and risk factors.
Vice Principal Prof. Dr. Muhammad Shahid highlighted the role of medical institutions in raising public awareness about disease prevention and healthy lifestyles. He stressed the importance of delivering authentic medical information to households through media and social platforms.
Medical experts at the event informed attendees about key diagnostic tools for breast cancer, such as clinical examination, mammography, and biopsy. They advised women with a family history of the disease to seek professional risk assessment and discussed various treatment options, including surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and hormonal therapy. Participants at the event resolved to spread the message of breast cancer awareness to all societal segments, advocating for timely diagnosis, appropriate treatment, and reliable medical guidance.
