Islamabad: The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) recently hosted an official visit from Dr. Cosmas Luckyson Zavazava, Director of the International Telecommunication Union’s (ITU) Telecommunication Development Bureau (BDT). The meeting underscored a mutual commitment to advancing digital collaboration between Pakistan and the ITU.
During the discussions, Major General (R) Hafeez Ur Rehman, Chairman of the PTA, provided an overview of Pakistan’s telecommunications landscape. The conversation touched on recent achievements, ongoing regulatory reforms, and the nation’s objectives for enhancing digital connectivity. The focus was on aligning with international standards and exploring avenues for global cooperation to expedite progress.
Dr. Zavazava voiced his support for Pakistan’s initiatives, emphasizing the importance of robust policy-making, regulation, and systems for emergency communications and disaster response. He detailed ITU’s strategy to introduce specialized artificial intelligence training programs, starting with training master trainers to broaden sectoral expertise.
