Islamabad: In a concerted effort to curb criminal activities, the Islamabad Police have intensified operations across the federal capital, resulting in the arrest of 164 suspects over the past week. The operations, conducted under the directives of Inspector General of Police (IGP) Islamabad Captain (Retd.) Muhammad Sohail Chaudhry, targeted serious crimes and led to the recovery of significant quantities of drugs and illegal weapons.
According to Islamabad Capital Police, the suspects include 104 court absconders, proclaimed offenders, and individuals with prior criminal records. Additionally, 60 suspects linked to drug trafficking and illegal weapons possession were apprehended. The police seized 1,837 grams of ice, 5,930 grams of hashish, 815 grams of cannabis, 56 bottles of liquor, three rifles, three Kalashnikovs, six daggers, and 31 pistols of various calibers, along with ammunition. Legal cases have been initiated, and investigations are ongoing.
The police also conducted extensive search and combing operations in various areas, supervised by zonal senior police officials. These operations involved checking 2,169 individuals, 1,045 houses, 260 shops, 133 hotels, 1,134 motorcycles, and 443 vehicles. As part of these efforts, 132 individuals, 127 motorcycles, and nine vehicles were taken to police stations for further verification. Additional weapons, including three Kalashnikovs and three pistols, were confiscated from suspects.
Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Islamabad Ali Wasim emphasized the police’s commitment to safeguarding citizens and eradicating crime in the capital. He assured that search, combing, and intelligence-driven operations will continue to be enhanced to effectively combat crime. The DIG highlighted the “No to Weapon” campaign, focusing on eliminating illegal weapons, preventing the display of weapons, and stopping aerial firing. He reiterated the importance of arresting proclaimed offenders and reducing drug-related crimes while ensuring swift justice for citizens.
DIG Ali Wasim urged officers to enhance the effectiveness of search operations while respecting citizens’ rights and adhering strictly to legal protocols. He called for vigilance against suspicious activities and urged timely legal action. He appealed to the public to report any suspicious activity to police stations or the Police Emergency Helpline 15, underscoring the necessity of police-community cooperation in maintaining peace and security in Islamabad.
