ISLAMABAD: Islamabad Police, under the leadership of Inspector General Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi, has reported a significant decrease in crime rates and improved public safety as a result of comprehensive reforms introduced since April 2024. According to Islamabad Capital Police, the initiatives have led to a 27% reduction in property crimes and a 100% detection rate in murder cases, reflecting the force’s commitment to effective policing and justice.

The reforms, which have placed Islamabad 83rd on Numbeo’s World Safety Index—surpassing cities like London and Toronto—include enhancements to the Counter Terrorism Department and the establishment of specialized units such as SWAT and Delta Force. These units are designed to bolster counter-terrorism efforts and emergency response capabilities within the federal capital.

Additionally, the police have focused on modernizing their operational capacities by integrating advanced technologies and improving public-police relations through initiatives like the Friend of Police internship program. Efforts to curb illegal activities have resulted in the arrest of over 1,500 individuals for illegal weapon possession and significant narcotics recoveries under the “Nasha Ab Nahi” campaign.

Moreover, the Islamabad Police has prioritized women’s empowerment and mobility through programs like the ITP Uraan Scooter and Motor Riding School. To further enhance security and public service, the force has launched projects such as the Safe City Islamabad upgrade and the “Weapon-Free Islamabad” campaign.

These reforms have not only enhanced the safety of Islamabad’s residents but have also set a benchmark for policing standards across the nation, demonstrating a model of modern, citizen-focused law enforcement.
