Islamabad IT Park Project Set to Boost Pakistan’s IT Exports to $25 Billion


Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has reiterated the importance of the IT Park project in Islamabad, projecting it as a pivotal boost for Pakistan’s IT exports, with aspirations to reach a $25 billion milestone.



According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, during a meeting today in Islamabad to review various IT sector projects, the Prime Minister was briefed on the accelerated progress of the IT Park, which is being developed in collaboration with a Korean company. The company has moved up the project’s completion date from June to February of the following year, signaling a significant advancement.



The Prime Minister expressed satisfaction with the ongoing efforts and highlighted the potential impact of the IT Park on domestic IT exports. Additionally, he reviewed the digital smart cities project, which is set to launch in Islamabad, aiming to provide citizens with easy access to 150 services through the ‘Islamabad City Super’ application. This initiative will integrate services from the Capital Development Authority, Islamabad Police, and Health and Education departments into a single mobile application.



The meeting also covered the expansion of mobile application services nationwide, which will eventually include all federal government services. The Prime Minister encouraged the promotion of mobile application use for accessing government services, reflecting a shift towards digital governance.



Moreover, the briefing revealed that over the last five months, IT exports have surged by 30 percent compared to the previous year. During this period, three lakh students registered for IT skills training programs, and four new incubation centers were launched to foster innovation and entrepreneurship in the IT sector.



The initiatives discussed in the meeting illustrate a concerted effort to enhance IT infrastructure and capabilities, which are expected to significantly contribute to achieving the targeted growth in IT exports.
